The transition from DSLR to mirrorless cameras was a significant shift in the photography world. For many photographers, particularly those heavily invested in DSLR lenses, the transition raised concerns about compatibility and the potential need for expensive new gear. Canon users need not worry, though, as there is a useful and affordable accessory that will make your life much easier.

Coming to you from Prickly Pear Camera, this informative video addresses a common dilemma faced by many photographers who are transitioning from Canon DSLR cameras to the newer Canon EOS R mirrorless series and the usefulness of the EF-EOS R lens adapter. The key issue is the compatibility of Canon EF and EF-S lenses with the EOS R series, which uses the new RF mount. The significance of this adapter lies in its ability to maintain the full functionality of EF and EF-S lenses on the EOS R series, including autofocus and other internal features. This compatibility is crucial for photographers who have built a collection of DSLR lenses over time and are not ready to part with them or incur the expense of replacing them with RF lenses. I'm one of those users, and I'm happy to say the adapter has allowed me to seamlessly use my EF lenses. In fact, some of the more fickle ones, like my older 85mm f/1.2, actually exhibit faster and more accurate autofocus performance using the adapter than they ever did on any DSLR. It really is a no-brainer for any serious Canon user. Check out the video above for the full rundown.

Agreed, I have the one with control ring, which is handy on R8 as that body does not have third customisable wheel. I used the control ring for exposure compensation when shutter is half pressed.

I use the adapter with EF 85mm F1.8 USM & 17-40mm F4L. Works perfect.

We are still on EF glass and not planing to switch for RF very soon. 2 control ring adapters and adaptor with variable nd filter especially keeps us with the EF glass.

300/4 L IS USM gone... Dont like the lens! 🤣

The good old EF135/2 L doesn't focus quickly on a EOS R body with adapter (with or without CP). For my type of photography that doesn't matter, but I guess for sports it would be rather disappointing.

Weird! Mine focuses quite well on my EOS R and EOS R5.

Same here, no issues whatsoever with my 135 and the adapter or my EF 70-200 II.

R6 mk1 no problem with focusing speed even 200/2.8 mk2 is very fast.. Both 135/2.0 and 200/2.8 mk2 with TC 2x or 1.4x still focus great...
