Since the first Pixel phone, Google has included a USB A-to-C adapter. So, you don’t have to buy one in case you need it. However, a new leak suggests that the upcoming Google Pixel 9 series might come without the USB adapter in the box.

The USB A-to-C adapter is useful for situations where you want to connect the device to a PC or accessory without a USB-C port. For example, PCs from a few years ago or some charging bricks. That said, more and more products are including multifunctional USB-C ports, so adapters are becoming less important. It seems that Google noticed this and may be ditching the accessory in its upcoming flagship mobile devices.

Google will launch the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro series on August 13, but we already know several key details thanks to leaks. Now, a new report includes an image of what the Pixel 9 Pro retail box would include. According to the image, the device will only come with a USB-C to USB-C cable and a SIM ejection tool, missing out on the USB adapter along the way.

Perhaps Google believes that, by now, it has shipped enough adapters for most Pixel series fans to have one. After all, every Pixel phone has included one in the box, and that’s been going on for 8 generations now. The increased presence of USB-C ports in tech products could be another factor. There are also potential environmental motivations for trying to reduce electronic waste.

This is not an official confirmation, so things could be different in August. However, the source is reliable, so it is likely that the Pixel 9 series will actually be the first without a USB A-to-C adapter in the box. While the image shows the Pixel 9 Pro box content, it will probably be the same for the vanilla model. Lastly, it is also possible that the company implements the measure in some regions.
